The head of the FBI Office for Romania and Moldova met today in Chisinau with the director of the NAC, Ruslan Flocea
14.05.2021 1425 ViewsThe head of the FBI Office for Romania and the Republic of Moldova, Monika Wasiewicz, met today in Chisinau with the director of the National Anticorruption Center, General Ruslan Flocea. The visit was courteous and aimed at establishing mutually collaborative relationships.
During the meeting, the director of the NAC gave a comprehensive presentation of the attributions of the Center, emphasizing the importance and role of the institution in preventing and combating systemic corruption. He also informed FBI representatives about the achievements of the NAC officers in documenting and identifying criminal assets, as well as in investigating cross-border crimes. In the same context, the head of the Center mentioned that these successes were possible due to a sincere cooperation with several international bodies that teamed up with the NAC officers in the investigation of several types of crimes.
According to Ruslan Flocea, corruption is a shameful phenomenon and an impediment to the country's development. "Through our education and corruption prevention activities, the NAC wants to increase the degree of legal culture of citizens and promote integrity standards in both the public and private sectors. We are convinced that, through our integrity testing tools, assessment of risks, by raising civic awareness we will manage to diminish the degree of corruption, as people's tolerance towards corruption remains quite high", pointed out Flocea.
In turn, Monika A. Wasiewicz stressed that any democratic society has problems with corruption and it is necessary to use all the levers given by law. According to Ms. Wasiewicz, the FBI is also actively involved in the fight against corruption in the United States, and the colleagues are ready to exchange best practices with the NAC officers.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their openness to cooperate in the areas of responsibility and to develop mutually cooperative relations.
