Less severe preventive measures against the president of the Cahul District Council and three other figures in the file of rigged auctions
04.05.2022 126 ViewsThe South Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office informs that yesterday, May 3, 2022, the Central Office of the Cahul Court examined the anti-corruption prosecutor's request regarding the extension of the preventive measure in the form of house arrest, for a period of 30 days, applied towards the president of the Cahul District Council.
Therefore, the Court decided to apply a milder preventive measure towards the president of the Cahul district, placing him under judicial control for a period of 60 days.
Subsequently, we inform that yesterday, May 3, 2022, the Cahul District Court examined the request of the anti-corruption prosecutors to extend the preventive measurestowards three other extras within the same criminal case.
Thus, as a result of the examination of the proceedings, the Court decided to replace the preventive measures applied with some milder measures, as follows:
- with regard to the head of the Regional Construction Directorate within the Cahul District Council, the preventive measure applied in the form of pre-trial detention was replaced by house arrest, for a period of 30 days;
- with regard to a specialist from the Public Procurement Directorate, the preventive measure in the form of house arrest was replaced by a provisional release under judicial control, for a period of 30 days;
- the administrator of an economic agent was ordered to be released from house arrest, in the absence of the application of another preventive measure.
In this context, we inform that the anti-corruption prosecutors consider the Court's decisions to be unfounded, and will appeal them, within 3 days to the Cahul Court of Appeal, insisting on maintaining the previous measures, as necessary to ensure the proper conduct of the prosecution on the case.
Moreover, we would like to point out that, as early as April 18, 2022, the anti-corruption prosecutors addressed the Cahul District Council an application regarding the suspension from office of the president of Cahul District.
However, although on April 19, 2022, the Cahul District Council was convened, so far there is no decision on the action taken by prosecutors regarding the suspension from office of the President of the Cahul District Council.
We would also like to mention that on April 19, 2022, at the meeting of the Cahul District Council an order signed by the President of the Cahul District placed under house arrest was presented to authorize another person to exercise his duties.
The criminal investigation on this case is in full swing, respectively when issuing relevant solutions in this case, the anti-corruption prosecutors will inform the public opinion on this subject.
