An Inspector of the Drochia Police Inspectorate`s Technical Surveillance and Road Accident Service was detained by the officers of the General Territorial Directorate North of the NAC and the anticorruption prosecutors in a case of influence peddling. The policeman would have asked for 45,000 lei from a driver to help him not to be punished for driving the car in a state of ebriety.
The case was initiated after the driver adressed the NAC a complaint. He denounced that the policeman allegedly had an influence on some of Drochia's judges and prosecutors, and that he could make him not be criminally liable and not be deprived of the right to drive. That's when after 18 April the driver was caught drunk driving and his driving license lifted. The detention took place adjacent to the Police Inspectorate, and the inspector was detained for 72 hours. A criminal prosecution has been started in his name under Art. 326 criminal code - influence, and if found guilty, he risks up to 6 years of detention, fine and deprivation of the right to occupy public positions.
We remind that, any person shall be presumed innocent until the final and irrevocable judgement is delivered.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor`s Office is carrying out the criminal proceedings.
