The mayor of Floreni village from Anenii Noi and a local councilor were detained by the NAC officers and the anticorruption prosecutors in two criminal cases, based on the fact of passive corruption and the influence peddling. The mayor and the representative of the local Council are suspected of claiming from a local businessman 350,000 lei to legalize a land, which has been in use for several years.
According to the materials of the case, the suspects were going to influence the members of the Local Council to issue a decision to lease the land that had previously been taken abusively by the contractor. To give them legitimate rights to the land, the two would have proposed to the businessman to lease the lot and then offer the possibility of buying it.
The money was sent in three trances, under the control of the NAC - 200,000 lei, 10,000 lei and 140,000 lei. Following the transmission of the last amount of money, the mayor and counselor were flagrantly captured and escorted to the NAC. Two cases were initiated on their behalf - for passive corruption and influence peddling. According to the legislation in force, if convicted, the detainees risk up to 15 years of detention.
