A lawyer from Telenesti was detained in flagrante delicto by the officers of the General Territorial Directorate North of the NAC and anticorruption prosecutors in as case of passive corruption and influence peddling. He allegedly demanded 2000 euros from a man for helping escape criminal liability for drunk driving.
According to the whistleblower, the lawyer claimed that he has influence on the employees of the Telenesti Police Inspectorate and the prosecutor from Telenesti Prosecutor’s Office, that conducts the criminal prosecution in the his case and that he could influence the civil officials to falsify the evidence that are to be administered, and , thus, it would be possible to hold the man non-liable for drunk driving.
Being documented by the NAC, the suspect was caught red-handed with 2000 euros. He was escorted to the headquarters GTD North for being questioned; currently he is in the custody of the NAC for 72 hours.
A criminal investigation was initiated in this case for influence peddling and passive corruption. The NAC officers carry out criminal prosecution procedures to identify the full circle of the suspects and potential involvement of other officials in the present case.
