They spend their summer holidays learning how to prevent corruption and promote integrity. Approx. 100 pupils and students from the entire country are attending during 27-31 July an online camp “Youth against Corruption”, organized by the National Anticorruption Center and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova, with the support of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The trainings will be conducted by NAC anticorruption officers, national and international experts.
Participants will learn how corruption manifests, who is responsible for preventing and combatting corruption, what are the consequences and social costs of this phenomenon. At the same time, the participants will be trained how to organize information activities within the institutions they are studying in, how to write anticorruption speeches and promote them through social media, as well as how to film and edit their own videos related to this topic.
One of the participants of the camp, Vlada Șimon, is studying at the high school “Mihai Viteazu” from the capital city, and in parallel is involved in anticorruption volunteering activities. “I participate in anticorruption activities, because I really want to live in a corruption-free country, a country that I can be proud of. Corruption affects all people. It can induce serious cleavages in the society, so as impacts human rights and leads to poverty. We, the young people, cannot remain indifferent and we cannot wait for others to act instead of us. It is important to be active in preventing this phenomenon,” states the young lady.
Another participant of the summer camp, Gheorghe Tătaru, pupil at the high school “Emil Nicula” from Mereni village, Anenii Noi district, notes that he got involved as a volunteer in the anticorruption field so as to motivate other young people to promote integrity. “Anticorruption volunteering offered me the opportunity to get involved in many activities related to preventing corruption and promoting integrity in educational institutions. I hope that this summer school will be a real opportunity for me to find out new things about anticorruption, for me to be able to talk about them to other young people of my age”.
Being present at the summer camp launching event, Lidia Chioreoglo, the Interim Head of Corruption prevention General Division of the National Anticorruption Center, mentioned: “The importance of this event is reflected in the priorities of the National Anticorruption Center, which aims, through its anticorruption education projects for youth, to develop intolerance towards corruption and to enhance the integrity culture. The agenda of the summer camp covers a wide variety of activities and although it is going to be organized in a different format, I encourage you to be active so as to find out as much as possible information about the tools for preventing and combating corruption, but also how young people can change things through involvement and dedication”.
The summer camp “Youth against Corruption” is organized under the “Curbing corruption and building sustainable integrity in the Republic of Moldova” project, implemented by UNDP in partnership with the National Anticorruption Center, with the financial support of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
