The National Anticorruption Center became the first national anti-corruption agency that has obtained the ISO 37001 international anti-bribery certificate and the ISO 27001 information security management. These two international certificates, issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), confirm correct functioning of the institution and the compliance of its activities with international standards.

To obtain both certificates, the NAC underwent a rigorous international audit during several months. The first stage of assessment targeted the compliance with the internal normative acts, following the diagnosis of the key processes within the institution, with the formulation of the recommendations aimed at enhancing the current anti-bribery and information security system management. The second stage consisted of a work visit of the audit team, which aimed at carrying out discussions with the managing and executive staff of the NAC on working processes, as well as other important questions. Thus, following the assessments, the National Anticorruption Center has received the two international certificates.

To specify, the anti-bribery management system is based on a series of measures and means of control, including the adoption of policies and procedures of combatting bribery, assessing risks of taking and giving bribes within the institution, implementing the means of financial control and in the field of public procurement, as well as initiating the procedures of reporting, monitoring, investigating and auditing. Thus, ISO 37001 reflects the best anti-corruption practices at the global level and will allow the institution to implement and effective anti-bribery management system, improving its security measures. This system encourages and promotes a solid institutional culture and establishes a set of clear anti-corruption rules and criteria that shall be complied with in all the activities carried out by the NAC.

The second accreditation certificate, received by the NAC, ISO 27001 standard, aimed at improving information security management, so that there are no breaches or other types of incidents with the information security risks. Obtaining the certification demonstrates the NAC’s commitment to securing its information.

The standardization certificates have been issued for 3 years, with the possibility of renewal.

To be mentioned, the certification was carried out with the support of the project “Curbing corruption by building sustainable integrity in the Republic of Moldova”, implemented by the United Nations Development Project (UNDP) Moldova, with the financial support of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Note: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an international non-governmental organization established in 1947, the successor of the International Federation of the National Standardizing Associations (ISA), founded in 1926, that laid the foundations for the international cooperation in standardization activities.
