NAC has imposed fines of around 1 million lei for electoral corruption. Over 350 minutes, received from the Police, are in the process of examination

The National Anti-corruption Centre has informed about the receipt from the Police of over 350 minutes establishing the contravention provided by art. 47(1) Contravention Code – passive electoral corruption. In this sense, the NAC has already applied fines worth approximately 1 million lei, the amount of the fine for this type of contravention varying between 25 thousand lei and 37,500 lei.

We specify that passive electoral corruption provides for the ascertainment of claims, acceptance or receipt, personally or through an intermediary, by a voter of undue goods, services, privileges or advantages in any form, for himself/herself or for another person , for the purpose of exercising or not exercising certain electoral rights during the elections.

Currently, the NAC is examining the minutes received, and will make decisions on them. It should be noted that the person who committed the contravention act is released from contravention liability if he/she self-reported and/or actively contributed to discovering or countering the commission of the act of electoral corruption.

Article 471 was introduced by Law no. 230 of 31.07.2024 and entered into force on 15.08.2024, and the competence was assigned to the National Anti-corruption Centre.
