NAC and the prosecutors are conducting searches of 6 people from Cimișlia and Comrat in cases of electoral corruption and illegal financing of political parties
29.10.2024 131 ViewsThe NAC officers and Cahul municipal prosecutors are conducting searches in Cimișlia and Comrat in two criminal cases, based on the fact of electoral corruption and illegal financing of political parties. The actions concern the homes and cars of six natural persons, affiliated to the respective formation.
According to the criminal investigation data, the six people were documented in the process of corrupting the voters for the referendum and the electoral vote that took place on October 20, 2024, the preparation of lists of interested persons, the centralization of information about them, the transmission of their personal data to third parties /financial institutions from outside the Republic of Moldova so that the latter obtain illegal remuneration for exercising the right to vote.
As part of this morning's criminal investigation, mobile phones, cash and draft documents were seized from the scene. All persons subjected to searches are recognized as suspects, and the actions take place under the procedural direction of the prosecutors of the municipality of Cahul.
We specify that people who offer money to influence the results of an election risk from one to 5 years in prison and a fine of over 50 thousand lei, and illegal financing of political parties from prohibited sources is punishable by up to 6 years imprisonment and a fine of over 67 thousand lei. In order to ensure the recovery of the damage, the legal institutions can seize the person's assets. At the same time, people who denounce the scheme and cooperate with the criminal investigation body, including handing over the things transferred to them in an illegal way, can be released from criminal or misdemeanor liability.
We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered.
