Two representatives of a political bloc were detained, in Bălți, by NAC and prosecutors in criminal cases of illegal financing of political parties and money laundering

The officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and Bălti municipal prosecutors detained, this afternoon, two representatives of a political block following searches carried out at the headquarters of two territorial offices in Bălti of the formation, as well as at the homes of the suspects. The actions took place within the framework of criminal cases opened for electoral corruption, illegal financing of political parties and money laundering committed by an organized criminal group.

According to the administered evidence, the suspects would have offered financial means to the voters in order for them to exercise their electoral rights in favour of a candidate registered in the electoral race for the presidential elections. They are currently being held for 72 hours and are to be placed in the NAC’s Detention Centre.

Also, the persons who collaborate with the law enforcement bodies are released from criminal/contravention liability if they self-reported and/or actively contributed to the discovery or countering of the commission of the act of electoral corruption.

We remind that every person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is issued, and investigations in this case continue.
