NAC is carrying out actions in a case of embezzlement of European funds. The ex-responsibles of the Project Implementation Unit at the "Moldsilva" Agency are targeted

The officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and prosecutors are carrying out several searches in a criminal case based on the embezzlement of public money in the framework of a project financed by the European Union. According to the investigated facts, persons with responsibility within the Implementation Unit, established under the "Moldsilva" Agency, allegedly fraudulently managed more than 10 million lei in the reconstruction process of several buildings within the "Prutul de Jos" Biosphere Reserve in the village of Slobozia Mare, Cahul district.

From the preliminary investigations, for the reconstruction of an existing building and the design of a garage in the total amount of 7.4 million lei, the economic agent would have used only 3.7 million lei, and the difference of approximately 4 million lei would have been embezzled.

To obtain evidence on the case, the NAC officers and prosecutors from the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office are carrying out searches at homes of five people, among them: the ex-leader of the Project Implementation Unit, the representative of the economic agent and the representative of the design company. Three people are to be recognized as suspects and investigated in a state of freedom.

Every person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered.
