Three individuals are being investigated by NAC for influence peddling. They allegedly promised the Moldovans entry into the Schengen area with the expired period of stay
06.11.2024 64 ViewsThe officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and prosecutors carried out searches at three people in the south of the country this morning in a case of influence peddling. They are suspected of having promised some Moldovan citizens that they could ensure the crossing of the Moldovan-Romanian border with a biometric passport, issued by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, even if they had violated the legal term of stay in the Schengen zone. At least 25 episodes have been documented by the NAC and one person has been detained for 72 hours following today's descents.
More precisely, the 3 suspects, including an employee of a car company and a bus driver, would have claimed and received from each person between 300 and 400 euros, to facilitate their crossing the Romanian Border and, respectively, entering the Schengen area.
To accumulate evidence, searches were carried out, under the procedural leadership of the Cahul Prosecutor's Office, in the offices, homes and cars of the suspects. As a result, conclusive evidence was raised for the prosecution. Currently, 2 people are being investigated at large, and one suspect was detained and placed in the NAC’s Detention Centre.
