The head of Fraud Investigation Office from Drochia arrested by NAC for extorting an iPad
26.01.2014 2965 ViewsThe head of Fraud Investigation Office of the Police Inspectorate of Drochia was arrested by NAC officers on suspicion of passive corruption a few hours ago.
The policeman is suspected to would have extorted an iPad from a seller in a local market for not being sanctioned for selling mobile phones without documents of origin.
According to the whistleblower, the man of law would have confiscated two mobile phones during the inspection. He would have promised to return the phones after receiving the iPad.
The arrest in the act took place around the local market. The man resisted the NAC officers and threw MDL 450 out of his pocket the moment he was arrested.
The policeman was detained for 72 hours and is being investigated for passive corruption. If found guilty, he faces up to 10 years in prison with a fine of up to MDL 60 000.
Criminal prosecution is conducted by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutors Office.
