Chief of the Probation Office is detained for 72 hours for corruption
24.12.2014 3753 ViewsThe chief of the Probation Office of Ialoveni was retained by NAC and anticorruption prosecutors on suspicion of extortion of money from a young man sentenced to "two years in prison with suspension".
The woman would have asked Euro 200 and MDL 4,000 for not informing the competent institutions to incarcerate him, given the fact that the convict would have infringed the reporting regime of the probation office.
According to the informer, the head of the Office would have claimed different amounts from him repeatedly. The young man would have given Euro 200, MDL 1,000, then MDL 3, 000 before the holidays.
NAC officers started a criminal investigation in this case under art. 324 Criminal Code – passive corruption. The official was arrested in the act in her office after receiving MDL 3,000 under NAC and prosecutors’ control yesterday.
Currently the head of the Probation Office is in custody for 72 hours at NAC. If found guilty, suspect faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine and deprivation of the right to hold public office for a period of 10 years.
