A police inspector from Orhei was arrested by NAC and prosecutors in a corruption case. The lieutenant colonel would have received USD 2,700 from a man to register a car and to issue license plate.
According to the informer, the police officer would have issued false registration number plates. After learning that the car was not included in the official data base, the whistleblower would have asked the man of law to return the USD 2,700.
A criminal investigation was started on this case under Art. 324, paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code - passive corruption. Following the investigation measures and criminal procedure, it was possible to retain in the cat the policeman when returning USD 1,000. The man of law is in custody at NAC for 72 hours now.
If found guilty, he risks from 7 to 15 years in prison with a fine of 8000 - 10,000 conventional units and deprivation of the right to hold certain public positions or to practice certain activities for a period of 10 to 15 years.
The criminal prosecution is conducted by the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office.
