A head of department and a traumatologistof the Drochia District Hospital are prosecuted for corruption by NAC officers and prosecutors on suspicion of involvement in criminal scheme of systematic extortion of money for issue of several types of certificates.
In the first case, according to the informer, the head of department who was also the Chairman of the Committee on medical examination of drivers and candidates for driving license, together with the nurse, would have falsified medical certificates needed for the admission to driving courses.
The investigations established that the scheme had been applied starting with year 2010 until today, when the head of department was caught in the act and detained for 72 hours.
In the second case, the traumatologist of the same hospital, jointly with the nurse, would have extorted money under the pretext to be able to influence members of the Territorial Council for Determining Disability and Work Capacity to provide a disability degree.
Thus, two criminal cases were opened for passive corruption and influence peddling.
If convicted, the suspects could face a prison sentence of 2 to 10 years with a fine of MDL 60 000 to MDL 160 000 and/or deprivation of the right to hold certain public functions or practice a certain activity for a period of from 2 to 10 years.
