A mayor, a former mayor and a councilor of the village Gotesti, Cantemir district, drew the attention of the General Territorial Directorate South of the NAC, after being reported that they allegedly demanded a bribe from the representatives of an economic agent. The suspects would have extorted money to favour the decision of the local Council regarding budget allocation for repair works, that had to be done by the economic agent.

In fact, it is about the restoration of a Youth Center from the locality, for which the community council had to allocate the company that won the tender approximately 6 million lei. To include the draft project on the agenda, the officials allegedly demanded, in different periods, the equivalent of 10 percent of the total amount – the money that they would have received in several tranches.

In this case, a criminal investigation was initiated for passive corruption. The three are under criminal investigation and risk up to 10 years of prison, a criminal fine and deprivation of the right to hold public positions for a certain period of time. Currently, two persons are detained, another is investigated at large.

We remind that every person is presumed to be innocent until the final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced.

The Anticorruption Prosecution Office South is carrying out the criminal investigation.
