The synthesis of the week: assets worth 8 million lei, frozen by the CARA under the National Anticorruption Center

The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) under the NAC has announced the freezing assets worth 8 million lei. It is about the assets of illegal origin that were seized within a criminal case, initiated for money laundering last week.

Thus, during the parallel financial investigations, the CARA froze 14 assets, among which are 7 housing and nonresidential constructions, 2 nonresidential entities, 4 building plots and a share capital. The total amount of frozen assets is 7 823 318 lei. Also, during the last week, the CARA finalized 5 delegations on 4 criminal cases regarding 10 subjects; drafted 2 analytical notes about 9 persons and drafted 17 advisory opinions on the valuation of 21 real estate. (3 blocks of flats, 2 flats, an administrative building, 2 construction accessories, a building plot and 12 agricultural lands).

We remind, that since the beginning of this year, the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency has seized assets, illegally obtained, worth over 60 million lei, but in 2020, their number reached 1,5 billion lei.

The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency is an autonomous subdivision under the NAC, specialized in conducting parallel financial investigations, freezing criminal assets, assessing, managing and estimating the value of seized criminal assets.
