Four more border police officers, accused of passive corruption in the Airport case, started in June 2021, will appear in court. The NAC officers and anti-corruption prosecutors announce that they have completed the criminal investigation in the cases in which 15 employees of the General Inspectorate of Border Police were investigated for bribery claims from passengers leaving the country and who were suspected of presenting «COVID-19» PCR tests with the signs of falsification.

Earlier, seven other people were sent to court, and regarding a police officer the court has already issued a sentence, applying a penalty in the form of a criminal fine of 250,000 lei, 8 years of deprivation of the right to hold office public within the Ministry of Interior and imprisonment with conditional suspension for a period of 5 years.

We remind you that on September 29, 2021, the NAC and the anti-corruption prosecutors searched several employees of the Border Police Directorate "Chisinau International Airport", suspecting that, in the exercise of their duties, they would have created and implemented a scheme for the illicit obtaining of money from passengers leaving the country and in respect of which there were suspicions of possession of false "COVID-19" tests. This, the involved border guards allegedly accepted and received systematically from the citizens who crossed the RM border, upon departure, bribes between 50 -100 euros.

Also, some employees of the General Inspectorate of Border Police allegedly extorted money from Moldovan and foreign citizens, who intended to cross the state border of the Republic of Moldova through the "Chisinau International Airport", in the sense of "exit", in order not to draw up minutes on them for violating the rules of isolation.

In total, 11 out of 15 people went to court, four others were removed from criminal prosecution, but in respect of them misdemeanor proceedings were initiated for receiving illegal rewards or material benefits, which were also sent to court for the examination and application of the sanction according to the competence.

We note, that every person is presumed to be innocent until the final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced. The Anticorruption Prosecution Office is conducting the criminal investigation and the informational support on the case was provided by the Security and Intelligence Service and the General Inspectorate of Border Police.
