The CARA of the NAC applied seizures of 268 million lei in the Laundromat case

Assets estimated at about over 268 million lei were seized by the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) under the NAC last week. According to the CARA, the seizure of 268 million lei was frozen based on the prosecutors’ delegation in the Laundromat file and other seizure worthing 120 000 lei was seized based on the delegation of the the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (POCOCSC). Currently,169 delegations regarding 284 subjects are being examined by the CARA.

In addition to the criminal assets recovery component, the NAC has carried out its activity on other dimensions as well, as corruption prevention, analytics, expertise and anticorruption education.

Thus,

·        The Analytical Directorate completed 11 operational analyses, initiated 11 new operational analyses, other 125 operational and strategic analyses are under procedure;

·        The Legislative Directorate and Anticorruption Expertise received 26 draft normative acts for expertise, 12 expert reports and 15 opinions were issued to the authors, 32 are under procedure;

·        1103 materials were registered by the Chancellery of the Center;

·        48 telephone calls were received at the National Anticorruption Hotline;

·        The Anticorruption Education Directorate carried out 16 information and awareness raising activities regarding the risks and consequences of involvement in acts of corruption in different public entities. For the current week, 12 trainings are planned;

·        90 integrity records were issued;

·        Currently, two persons are being detained in the NAC detention center.
