An officer of the Transport and Road Accidents Surveillance Service of the Drochia Police Inspectorate was detained, this afternoon, by the officers of the General Territorial Directorate North of the NAC and the anti-corruption prosecutors. The policeman was denounced by a driver, who complained that the officer demanded a bribe to release his car from the special parking lot.

According to the whistleblower, on September 7, while driving an Opel Astra car, he was stopped by the traffic officer for a document check. When the police officer found that the driver did not have a driver's license, he would have picked up his vehicle to be placed in the special parking lot. After some discussions, the policeman allegedly suggested that he could release his car for 1000 lei.

This morning, the driver called the National Anticorruption Hotline and notified the GTD North of the NAC. Following the complaint, a criminal case was initiated, and a few hours later, the police officer was caught red handed, the money being found in his personal car. Currently, the policeman is in the custody of the GTD North, being heard in the criminal case, initiated for passive corruption.

The Northern Office of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office is conducting the criminal investigation.

We remind, that every person is presumed to be innocent until the final and irrevocable court decision is pronounced.
