A customs officer was detained for 72 hours for influence peddling. The inspector allegedly received 500 euros to influence the employment of a young woman in the Customs Service

An inspector of the Hagimus Customs Post was detained by the officers of the General Territorial Directorate North of the National Anticorruption Center and the anticorruption prosecutors in an influence peddling case. The employee of the Customs Service is suspected of demanding 500 euros from a young woman in exchange for her employment. 

According to the criminal investigation materials, the customs officer allegedly demanded 500 euros from the candidate, claiming that she would have influence on the employees of the Personnel Management Department of the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova and that she could convince them to hire her as a customs inspector within the North Customs Office. Later, the suspect allegedly received 10,200 lei on his card, via bank transfer, from the card account of the whistleblower’s husband. 

Today, following the criminal prosecution actions carried out by the employees of the General Territorial Directorate North of the National Anticorruption Center in collaboration with the Integrity and Supervision Directorate of the Customs Service and the anticorruption prosecutors of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office North, searches were carried out at the residence and in the personal car of the suspect. The mobile phone, bank card and other objects important for the criminal case were taken from the scene. Customs officer was detained for 72 hours. 

The Northern Office of the Anticorruption Prosecution is conducting the criminal investigation. 

We remind, that every person is presumed to be innocent until the final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced.
