A former head of department within the State Fiscal Service is being investigated by the NAC officers and anti-corruption prosecutors, in a criminal case based on acts of illicit enrichment, manifested by the possession of assets, which substantially exceed the declared means and falsely in declarations manifested by not including intentional disclosure of data in the declarations of wealth and personal interests.

According to the investigation, the official would have obtained, during the exercise of the public office, together with family members, movable and immovable property, owned including through third parties or parents, the value of which substantially exceeds the lawfully obtained income.

In the period 2014-2021, the declared income of the suspect and his family members, consisting of salaries, interest, social allowances, sales of real estate or movable goods, amounted to approximately 2.2 million lei. Analyzing the declarations of wealth and personal interests of the official's family, the criminal investigation body established a substantial difference between the incomes declared and those owned de facto.

Following the investigations, it was found that, during the mentioned period, the suspect's mother would have acquired real estate, including an apartment, a house and three accessory buildings, worth over 3 million lei. According to official databases, the woman did not register taxable income in the period 2015-2021. Thus, the difference between the value of the declared assets and the unjustified income obtained by the official and his family members is approximately 4 million lei (3 913 372 lei).

On behalf of the former head of the SFS, a criminal investigation was initiated for illicit enrichment and false statements.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office is conducting the criminal investigation.

We remind, that every person who has been charged shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
