New details in the criminal case regarding the illegal financing of the Political Party Şor

Today, the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office in collaboration with the National Anticorruption Center and the Information and Security Service conducted more than 20 searches in the case of illegal financing of the Political Party Şor.

The criminal prosecution actions took place throughout the country, at the residences of some members of the faction, who are actively and systematically involved in receiving and distributing money in particularly large proportions to presidents and vice-presidents of the party's territorial offices, for transportation and remuneration citizens from different regions of the country at the protests organized by the Shor Party during September 2022 - present, including the protest planned for February 19, 2023.

Eight people were detained today. The detained persons are charged with the crime of complicity in accepting party financing from an organized criminal group, a crime provided for in art. 181/2 para. (5) of the Criminal Code, which is punishable by up to 7 years in prison.

We remind you that during the searches carried out on October 20, 2022, prosecutors and officers seized more than 4.2 million lei and 4,000 US dollars, and on November 2, 2022, over 320,000 MDL were detected and seized.

During the last months, with the help of special technical means, it was possible to document several episodes in which members of the organized criminal group transferred over 3.3 million lei, 61,000 euros and 55,000 dollars to members and activists of the Şor Party.

The respective money was intended to be paid to the people who participated in the protests, the payment of the transport and the enveloped salaries of the party members. Accumulated evidence confirms that the money comes from sources prohibited by law.

The criminal investigation is in the final phase and decisions are to be taken based on the evidence administered so far.

Note: A person accused of committing a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
