A criminal investigation officer from the Cahul Police Inspectorate is under criminal investigation for passive corruption. This morning his office and home were searched. The officers of the General Territorial Directorate South of the NAC and the prosecutors of the Southern Office of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office carried out criminal investigation in in which the policeman is suspected of the unjustified classification of the cases under his management, started on drink-driving.

According to the accumulated materials, the criminal investigation officer allegedly claimed and received 3,000 euros for classifying a case of drink-driving. Currently, several actions are being carried out to establish possible accomplices, as well as other cases of illegal classification of cases started on similar facts.

The suspect is to be investigated at large, due to some health issues.

The Southern Office of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office is conducting the criminal investigation.

Every person who has been charged shall be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to the law.
