13 million lei were deposited on the treasury accounts of the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency of the NAC

13,000,000 lei entered the treasury accounts of the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency of the NAC, on October 26, 2023. Of the total amount, 11 million lei are seizures applied based on the delegations of the Customs Service, and another 2 million lei represents criminal bodies, in a smuggling case, submitted to the Agency for administration.

At the moment, about 368 million lei are deposited on CARA’s treasury accounts. Of the total amount, over 280 million lei are seized in cases of money laundering, 48 million lei - for corruption offences, 32 million lei - for smuggling and another over 6 million lei for crime cases organized crime, drug trafficking and human trafficking. Since its creation, the CARA has seized assets worth over 8 billion lei.

The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) is an autonomous subdivision within the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) that is in charge of conducting parallel financial investigations, the evaluation, administration and disposal of confiscated criminal assets, as well as the record of these assets.

The agency states that the criminal assets recovery process is considered completed once the court adopts the confiscation decision, after the conviction of the person.
