A resident of Balti municipality, investigated by the NAC for influence peddling and fraud, was referred to justice

A man from Bălți, criminally investigated by the General Territorial Directorate North of the NAC for influence peddling and fraud, was referred to justice, after the Northern Office of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office completed the criminal investigation and sent the case to the court for examination. The criminal prosecution of the case was started in June 2021 by the National Anticorruption Center, Office North, based on several complaints.

According to the indictment, it was found that the defendant, during the years 2020-2021, claiming to have influence over public figures, members of the driver examination commissions within the Transport Registration and Driver Qualification Sections, claimed and received from seven citizens from the North of the Republic of Moldova monetary means in foreign currency (euro), the equivalent of the amount of 129,691 lei, to encourage them to take the driving qualification exams in order to obtain driving licenses.

It should be mentioned that the accused evaded the criminal investigation, at the request of the prosecutor, the investigating judge applied the preventive measure in the form of preventive arrest, which is to be executed from the moment of his detention or extradition by the authorities right, at the same time being announced in search.

The criminal case was sent for substantive examination to the Bălti Municipal Court, and if he is found guilty of committing the named crimes, the defendant risks a prison sentence of up to 6 years or a fine ranging from 100,000 to 150,000 lei ( in the case of art. 326 para. (1) of the Criminal Code) and imprisonment of up to 3 years or a fine ranging from 27,500 to 50,000 lei (in the case of art. 190 para. (1) and 326 para. (1) from the Criminal Code).

Note: A person accused of committing a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
