An investigation officer from the Chisinau Municipal Police Department was caught red-handed a short time ago by the NAC in an influence peddling case. He allegedly claimed and subsequently received the sum of 2,000 euros from a person subject to criminal prosecution.

According to the case materials, the investigating officer allegedly claimed that he has influence on public figures within the General Police Inspectorate (GPI) and that he could convince them not to apply a coercive procedural measure regarding a person whose home was searched.

Following the procedural actions carried out in the morning of November 22, the investigating officer received under the control of the NAC officers the financial means previously claimed in the amount of 2000 euros. In order to accumulate evidence, the body search of the public official involved was carried out, following which the monetary means in the amount of 2,000 euros previously handed over to the control of the NAC officers, including other items of interest to the criminal case, were seized.

The investigating officer has been detained for 72 hours and is to be placed in the NAC Detention Center. Currently, criminal prosecution actions are taking place, under the procedural leadership of the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office.

Any person who has been charged shall be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to the law.
