The Chisinau District Court (Ciocana headquarters) today issued arrest warrants for a period of 30 days on behalf of the 6 customs employees of the Northern Customs Office, including the head of the office. Thus, five people are to be placed in Penitentiary 13, and a customs official received a house arrest warrant, the court rulings being subject to appeal in accordance with the legal provisions.

We remind you that the NAC and the prosecutors from the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office detained, two days ago, the head of the "North" Customs Bureau of the Customs Service, as well as five other customs officials. They are being investigated in a criminal case, in which they are accused of acts of passive corruption.

According to the evidence administered by the NAC, it was found that the accused would have organized a criminal scheme, through which they would have claimed and received illegal remuneration from natural persons and legal persons for expediting or evading some customs procedures, materialized by favoring the latter when introducing or the transit of goods on the customs territory of the Republic of Moldova, contrary to the provisions of the law. Thus, as part of the investigations carried out by the NAC, it was documented that the suspects claimed and accepted from the persons who introduced goods through the customs posts some illicit remunerations that varied between 1.5 thousand euros and 9 thousand euros.

Several sums of money, as well as other evidence relevant to the case, were seized during the searches. Case investigations continue to be conducted under the procedural leadership of the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office.
