The NAC officers and prosecutors are today conducting searches at the headquarters of a construction company in the capital, targeted in a case of abuse of office in which multiple irregularities are being investigated in the construction of a 12-story building in I.L Caragiale street in the municipality of Chisinau. The case also examines the alleged illegal actions of some decision-makers from the Chisinau City Hall who in 2017 allegedly issued permits for the construction of the apartment block in violation of the legal provisions.

The criminal case was started on the basis of complaints from the tenants of the neighboring blocks, but also on an expert report that establishes the violations admitted by the construction company, which would have caused damages to the buildings in the immediate vicinity.

In order to accumulate evidence, the NAC officers requested several documents from the specialized departments of the Chisinau City Hall, as well as from the construction company. Given the fact that the administration of the economic agent refused the transmission of the documents and restricted the access of legal institutions to carry out the investigation on the spot, today, based on the authorization of the court, searches were carried out at the company headquarters. At the same time, the NAC officers, together with the specialists of the State Construction Inspection, are currently conducting an on-site investigation at the address of the mentioned block.

It should be noted that at this stage no person has procedural status, and the case-by-case investigations continue under the direction of the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office.
