Around 400 people were trained by the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) in Briceni and Basarabeasca this week. The activities were carried out in the context of information and awareness campaigns, the purpose of which is to ensure institutional and professional integrity, hold managers accountable for applying integrity standards and inform about liability for lack of integrity.
Within the national campaign "I Decide with Integrity - I Vote with Accountability", carried out with the support of the State Chancellery - an initiative aimed at promoting transparency and responsibility in the electoral process in the Republic of Moldova, anti-corruption officers spoke about the notion of electoral corruption, presenting recent statistics on combating electoral fraud, the typology of electoral crimes, and mechanisms for reporting corruption cases. It should be noted that Article 47/1 was introduced by Law No. 230 of 31.07.2024 and entered into force on 15.08.2024, and the competence was assigned to the National Anti-corruption Centre. Thus, according to the Contravention Code, "passive electoral corruption" provides for fines from 25 thousand lei to 37.5 thousand lei per case, and to date, the NAC has applied fines of over 11 million lei in contravention cases of passive electoral corruption.
In addition, anticorruption officers conducted several trainings as part of the "Integrity for Health" information and awareness campaign, carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MH)-CNAS-AO HOMECARE. Training activities were carried out for managers of medical institutions and medical staff on integrity requirements and awareness-raising actions were carried out with patients and the general public at IMSP Briceni District Hospital and IMSP Basarabeasca District Hospital.
At the same time, 2 managerial and initial development courses were held within the Institute of Public Administration, Moldova State University, for managers of public entities and novice civil servants from local public administration authorities. During these, topics were addressed regarding measures to ensure institutional integrity, internal control of institutional integrity and the role of leaders in ensuring institutional integrity.
We remind that the purpose of the activities carried out by the NAC officers on the corruption prevention component are oriented towards cultivating and strengthening the climate of institutional integrity, by promoting anti-corruption and integrity policies.
