Two employees of the General Directorate for Post-Operational Fiscal Control of the State Tax Service are investigated by the NAC officers and anticorruption prosecutors in a case of passive corruption. They allegedly extorted 40 000 lei from an economic agent to impose a milder fine, after carrying out the inspection.
According to the materials of the case, the STS employees would have claimed from the financial director of one of the companies a bribe of 40 000 lei, promising to impose a lower fine on the enterprise for detected fiscal violations. Subsequently, he complained to the Internal Security Directorate of the STS, which notified the NAC, as provided by the law.
In this case, a criminal investigation was initiated for passive corruption, and this morning, the NAC officers and prosecutors made searches in the offices and domiciles of the suspects. Following the investigative actions, one of the employees was detained for 72 hours and the other will be investigated at large.
If found guilty, they risk imprisonment from 5 to 10 years with a fine from 6000 to 8000 conventional units and deprivation of the right to hold office from 7 to 10 years.
It should be noted, that the operation was carried out jointly with the Internal Security Directorate of the State Tax Service.
The Anticorruption Prosecution Office is conducting the criminal investigation.
