An official, architect at the Causeni District Council, was arrested in the act by NAC officers and prosecutors being suspected of passive corruption.
According to the informer, the man would have extorted MDL 2 000 for a permit to build a bakery, while the state fee for such document is MDL100, money paid officially by the whistleblower.
Following the criminal prosecution and special investigative measures, the official was caught red-handed when receiving MDL 1 000 within the precincts of the Causeni District Council. Money was found in his jacket pocket and handed over voluntarily. He is in custody for 72 hours at NAC.
However, previous investigations have shown that the architect would have received MDL 700 from informer before.
A criminal case was started under Art. 324 paragraph (2) letter c) Penal Code - "passive corruption".
If found guilty, the man risk a punishment by imprisonment from 5 to 10 years with a fine of MDL 12 000-16 000 and deprivation of the right to hold certain public positions or to practice certain activities for a period of from 7 to 10 years.
Criminal prosecution is conducted by the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office.
