A man was detained, yesterday night, by the officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre and the prosecutors of the Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office upon his return from the Russian Federation to Chisinau International Airport. He was wanted in 2019 for influence peddling.

According to the case materials, in the summer of 2019, the suspect allegedly demanded 8,000 euros from the mother of an accused, claiming that he would have influence over some employees of the Străseni Police Inspectorate and other public figures, to induce them to release her son, accused of committing a theft, from preventive detention.

The detention took place at the entrance to the territory of the Republic of Moldova, at the Chisinau International Airport border crossing point, and the suspect was placed in the Detention Centre for 72 hours.

The Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office is conducting the criminal investigation.
