NAC documents corruption scheme within the State Fiscal Service. One official was detained, 3 other people are being investigated at large

Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), together with prosecutors from the Cahul Municipal Prosecutor's Office, are conducting searches today at several addresses in the municipalities of Chisinau and Orhei, as part of a criminal case targeting several employees of the State Fiscal Service (SFS), suspected of involvement in a systemic corruption scheme. The criminal investigation was initiated by the National Anti-corruption Centre, based on reasonable suspicion of committing the crimes of influence peddling and passive corruption.

According to the accumulated evidence, SFS officials allegedly implemented an illegal scheme by which they systematically demanded and received sums of money from various economic agents, not to draw up tax control documents, to omit documenting violations detected in commercial activity or to apply milder sanctions. The amounts demanded would have varied, on average, around 500 euros, depending on the severity of the irregularities found.

Following the procedural actions carried out today, a civil servant from the State Tax Service was detained for 72 hours, and three other people are being investigated at liberty. Currently, the NAC and the Cahul Municipal Prosecutor's Office are carrying out searches, hearings and other criminal investigation measures to establish the entire network of complicity and fully document the facts.

We specify that every person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered.
