A foreign citizen, detained in flagrante delicto by the NAC and the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office in a case of active corruption and influence peddling

Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre, in collaboration with prosecutors of the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office, detained a foreign citizen in flagrante delicto while handing over some money to a customs inspector at the Chisinau International Airport. The suspect was reported to the NAC after previously committing an attempt to bribe a customs official.

According to the case materials, the money was allegedly offered to facilitate the crossing of the state border and not to create impediments to the customs control for several foreign citizens.

The criminal investigation was initiated based on a reasonable suspicion of committing the offenses provided for in art. 325 para. (3) and art. 326 para. (1 prim) of the Criminal Code. Currently, under the procedural leadership of the Chisinau City Prosecutor's Office, the NAC is conducting criminal investigation actions to fully document the circumstances and identify all persons involved.
