Searches throughout the country: 10 people were detained by the NAC and prosecutors in cases of voter corruption, illegal financing of political parties and money laundering
The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) informs about the conduct of a wide set of procedural actions within a complex criminal case, targeting alleged illegal activities related to the financing of political parties, money laundering and voter corruption in the context of the parliamentary elections of September 28, 2025. The NAC officers, in collaboration with the prosecutors of the municipality of Balti, are conducting 28 searches at the homes, offices and cars of individuals and legal entities, throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova. As a result, 10 people were detained for a period of 72 hours.
According to the evidence, the individuals concerned, including decision-makers affiliated with a political party, its members and supporters, allegedly implemented a criminal plan in the period leading up to the election. This plan involved recruiting voters and/or supporters, who were promised money, goods, services or other benefits in order to induce them to exercise their electoral rights in a certain way, favourable to a political party.
During the criminal investigation, suspicious transactions with monetary means, including in foreign currency and virtual currencies, were documented, used to camouflage the illicit origin of the funds. The total amount operated in these transactions is to be determined further, as the investigation progresses.
Up to this hour, the NAC officers have seized considerable amounts of money in various currencies, electronic data storage devices, draft documents and other relevant documents, evidence indicating the identification, recruitment and persuasion of voters to support a particular political party in the elections of September 28, 2025. The 10 detained individuals are to be placed in the country's criminal investigation detention centres, in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The investigations are ongoing, and we will report on the details as the case progresses. We remind that any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered.
