The NAC took stock of 2025: Over 790 corruption crimes detected and criminal assets identified worth over 723 million lei

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has recorded significant results in 2025 in the field of combating and preventing corruption, but also in the segment of identifying and managing criminal assets. According to the Activity Report, examined by the institution's Board, during the reference period, anti-corruption officers detected 847 crimes, of which 792 are corruption and corruption-related crimes.

Depending on the severity, the detected crimes include 26 particularly serious crimes, 370 serious, 205 less serious and 246 minor, and the most frequent investigated acts concerned active corruption (265 cases), passive corruption (206) and influence peddling (186). During the reporting period, the criminal investigation body of the NAC managed 1,597 criminal cases, of which 611 were finalized. 315 criminal cases were sent to trial, and 866 persons were recognized as suspects. The damage established in the criminal cases initiated in 2025 amounted to 43.2 million lei, of which 22.7 million lei constitutes the damage caused to the state.

The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) also recorded substantial progress. In 2025, parallel financial investigations were conducted in 205 criminal cases, identifying 1,100 assets belonging to 207 subjects. As a result, freezing orders were issued on real estate, means of transport, bank accounts, securities and virtual assets. At the same time, illicit assets worth over 723 million lei were identified. In this context, the NAC continued to implement the commitments assumed in the context of the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union. In this regard, the Automated Information System "Register of Frozen Criminal Assets" was implemented, ensuring complete and transparent management of data on seized assets.

In the field of corruption prevention, during the reporting period, 894 draft normative acts were expertized, 280 anti-corruption trainings were organized, with the participation of about 17,000 people, and 29 monitoring reports were developed within the institutional integrity assessment process. As a result, 17 public entities approved integrity plans.

For 2026, the NAC will focus its efforts on combating systemic and high-level corruption, investigating crimes committed by decision-makers, recovering criminal assets, preventing corruption in the field of public procurement, monitoring the management of external funds, as well as identifying corruption crimes committed through the use of virtual assets.
