The NAC is conducting searches in a case regarding the expropriation of land by the Durlești local public administration. The estimated damage is over 15 million lei
Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), together with prosecutors from the Chișinău Municipal Prosecutor's Office, are today conducting extensive procedural actions in a criminal case initiated on fraud, which aims to dispossess the local public administration of Durlești of several plots of land located within the city limits of the locality. The case targets the mayor and deputy mayor of the locality, cadastral engineers, the deputy head of the Chișinău Territorial Cadastral Service, local councillors, as well as final beneficiaries of land alienation schemes.
According to the case materials, the suspects allegedly developed a complex scheme through which they dispossessed the Durlești City Hall of land within the city limits. They allegedly falsified cadastral extracts and property titles in the absence of supporting documents, thus facilitating the illegal allocation of land. Subsequently, the plots were purchased at a symbolic price of 100,000 lei, then resold to real beneficiaries for amounts ranging from 38,000 to 39,000 euros. The final buyers were often real estate developers interested in consolidating land for massive construction projects.
Currently, searches are being carried out in over 50 locations in Chisinau and its suburbs. Up to this stage, eight people have been detained for 72 hours, to establish all the circumstances of the case, identify all the people involved and hold them criminally liable, according to the legislation in force. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
