Searches in the north of the country: five people detained by the NAC and prosecutors in Balti in corruption cases in the field of construction
Officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), jointly with prosecutors from the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office, announce the detention of five people in several criminal cases initiated on acts of influence peddling, passive corruption and active corruption. Among the detained people are two founders and administrators of economic agents operating in the field of construction, as well as three public figures, employed as deputy directors of vocational education institutions in Balti municipality and a technical manager (site manager) within the IMSP Singerei District Hospital - a person authorized by the state to exercise public interest duties in the field of construction.
According to the accumulated materials, one of the administrators, acting in a criminal interest, allegedly offered and transferred funds in amounts ranging from 8,000 to 35,000 lei to public figures, to determine them not to properly verify the volume and quality of the works executed within public procurement contracts carried out with state institutions, including educational and medical institutions. In this way, the reception of the works executed with deviations was facilitated.
At the same time, another administrator is suspected of claiming that he would have influence over public figures within the National Inspectorate for Technical Supervision, and of demanding and receiving illicit financial means from a person, in order to determine decision-makers to perform actions contrary to their duty and not to create impediments to the reception of a construction.
On April 14, 2026, the NAC officers, together with the prosecutors of the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office, conducted 15 searches within the framework of the targeted criminal cases. As a result of the criminal investigation, five people were detained for 72 hours, as follows: two administrators of economic agents, two deputy directors of vocational education institutions in Balti municipality and a construction site supervisor.
At the moment, the criminal investigation continues to establish all the circumstances of the case and identify all the people involved.
Note: Any person shall be presumed innocent until a final court decision is rendered.
