A man is being investigated by officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), jointly with prosecutors from the Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office (PA), in a case of influence peddling. He allegedly demanded and received money from another man to induce public figures to absolve him of criminal liability.

According to the case materials, in January 2025, the suspect allegedly demanded and received 17,500 euros from the whistleblower, claiming that he would have influence over public figures and persons of public dignity and that he could induce them to adopt a favorable decision in order to release him from criminal liability in a criminal case.

Today, the man was detained for 72 hours and placed in the NAC's detention centre. The criminal investigation continues under the leadership of the Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office to establish all the circumstances of the act and identify all the persons involved.

We remind that every person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is issued.
