Lawyer from Hincesti detained by the NAC and Chisinau municipal prosecutors for demanding a bribe of 16,500 euros

A lawyer from Hincesti was detained this morning by officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), under the procedural leadership of the Chisinau municipal prosecutor's office, on suspicion of committing the crime of influence peddling. According to the facts investigated, the lawyer allegedly demanded from a man, investigated by law enforcement agencies, undue financial means in a total amount of 16,500 euros (the equivalent of over 300,000 lei), claiming that he would have influence over public figures and public dignitaries and that he could determine them to issue a favourable decision in his file.

The suspect's act was documented in the framework of the investigation and criminal investigation actions carried out by the NAC, including the transfer of a tranche of money from the alleged amount. Following today's searches, the lawyer was detained for a period of 72 hours, and important objects and documents for the criminal case were seized. He is to be placed in the criminal prosecution isolator of the Centre. The actions in this criminal case are ongoing, under the leadership of prosecutors, in order to identify all the persons involved.
