An accomplice of the head of the Central Customs Bureau, arrested in a case of passive corruption under aggravating circumstances, was detained today by the NAC and prosecutors

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), together with the prosecutors of the municipality of Balti, have announced the conduct of searches at the home of an accomplice of the head of the Central Customs Bureau, detained on May 21 in the case investigating a criminal scheme of collecting illicit financial means in exchange for facilitating the passage of goods across the customs border of the Republic of Moldova when importing goods into the country, destined for the Transnistrian region. The man, who is a close relative of the accused and allegedly played the role of an intermediary, was detained this morning for 72 hours, being criminally investigated for complicity in passive corruption.

We remind that on May 21, the head of the Central Customs Office and a customs broker were detained by the National Anti-corruption Centre in a case of passive corruption under aggravating circumstances. Later, the head of the Căușeni Internal Customs Post was detained in the same case, and as a result of the criminal investigation, several mobile phones were seized, the total amount of financial means detected being approximately 1.1 million lei. 

The criminal investigation continues in the aforementioned criminal case under the procedural leadership of the prosecutors of the municipality of Bălți.

Any person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered.
