An ensign of the Bălți Police Inspectorate was detained by the GTD North officers of the NAC and anticorruption prosecutors after he was caught red-handed with the amount of 7 000 leis that he received from an employee of a beauty salon.
According to the materials of the case, the inspector, being a public official, would have claimed and received 7 000 lei for not imposing a fine to the manager of the salon and to the hairdresser for not filling in the register of anti-epidemic measures, as well as not imposing a fine to a client who was not wearing a mask. Thus, to exempt them from paying a fine of 75 000 leis, that is applied in similar cases to the legal persons and 22 500 for the natural persons, the policeman would have claimed 7000 leis.
A criminal prosecution was initiated in this case pursuant art.324 – passive corruption. If he is found guilty, the man risks imprisonment from 5 to 10 years with a fine from 6000 to 8000 conventional units and to deprivation of the right to hold public functions or to exercise certain activity from 7 to 10 years. The suspect was detained for 72 hours.
