A psychotherapist from Balti Community Center of Mental Health has drawn the attention of the General Territorial Directorate North of the NAC and anticorruption prosecutors, after being denounced by a man. He complained to the NAC that the doctor had allegedly claimed 500 lei from him to urge the issue of a certificate.
In fact, the man reported the fact of extorting the bribe, after trying to schedule at the Special Commission of examining psychic abilities of applicants to own and use weapons and ammunitions, to practice social and professional activities with increased responsibility to obtain a medical certificate. He would have needed a certificate to renew his driver’s licence, that expires in October, and due to the fact that the appointment to the Commission was scheduled only in November, he used the services of the psychotherapist. In his turn, the doctor allegedly offered him to pay 500 lei, and to issue the certificate immediately after receiving the money.
In this case, a criminal investigation was initiated for passive corruption. If found guilty, the psychotherapist risks a criminal fine, up to 10 years of detention, and the deprivation of the right to hold public positions for a certain period of time. The doctor is investigated at large, the NAC officers investigate his alleged involvement in similar corruption acts.
We remind, that every person is presumed to be innocent until the final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced.
The Anti-corruption Prosecution Office is carrying out the criminal investigation.
