Two customs inspectors from the north of the country, caught red-handed by the NAC with a bribe of 4000 lei
24.03.2021 3113 ViewsTwo inspectors from the Customs Office North were documented by the officers of the General Territorial Directorate North of the NAC and prosecutors while allegedly claiming and receiving a bribe, when exercising their duties, from a man who imported a car from abroad. According to the preliminary data, the inspectors allegedly claimed 100 euros and 2000 lei to include in documents of customs clearance of the vehicle the minimum tax.
Thus, between 3.30-5 p.m. , the customs inspectors would have asked from a person, who accompanied the car of the model Ford Transit, 100 euros to include in the customs acts the minimum cost of customs clearance and 2000 lei more to register the car on a man, who was not present at the time of drawing up of the documents. Therefore, the actions of the two inspectors are qualified as passive corruption, committed in the exercise of their duties.
Yesterday evening, the inspectors were escorted to the GTD North headquarters of the NAC for questioning, after that they were detained for 72 hours. If found guilty, they risk up to 10 years in prison, a criminal fine and the deprivation of the right to hold public office for a certain period of time. We remind that every person is presumed to be innocent until the final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced.
In their actions, the NAC officers were supported by the colleagues from the Customs Office.
The Anticorruption Prosecution Office North, is conducting the criminal investigation.
