Two IT specialists got to the NAC detention center after allegedly trying to organize, in exchange for 13 000 lei, scheduling and issuance of a driving license

Two young persons, specialists in information technologies, were placed in the Detention Center of the National Anticorruption Center, being investigated for corruption acts. They were reported by another young woman, who would have contracted their services to get an urgent scheduling for the theoretical and practical driving license exams.
According to the whistleblower, the two would have claimed that they have influence on the officials from the Office of Examination and Drivers’ Qualification of the Public Services Agency and that they can determine them ensure taking the practical examination of obtaining B category of driving license. Thus, using internet payment means, they claimed and received 13 050 lei to mediate the receiving of the driving license.
On 19.03.2021, a criminal case was initiated pursuant art. 326 (1) of the Penal Code – influence peddling, the grounds to initiate criminal investigation serves self-denunciation. Following the criminal prosecution actions, the identity of the persons involved was found out, and later they were detained. Within the searches, carried out at the domicile of the suspects, different objects, such as documents, bank accounts that have probative value, as well as financial means, allegedly obtained as the result of criminal activities in the total amount of 100 000 lei.
We remind that influence peddling is punishable by a fine from 2000 to 3000 conventional units or imprisonment for up to 6 years, and a legal person is punished by a fine from 4000 to 6000 conventional units with the deprivation of the right to exercise certain activities.
The criminal investigation is conducted by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
