Head of the CARA had a discussion with the liaison customs officer of the German Embassy

The head of the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) of the NAC, Sergiu Carapunarlî, met today with the liaison customs officer for Ukraine and Moldova within the German Embassy in Kiev, Heiko Wild. The discussion was focused on the common topics in the field of identification and tracing the criminal assets abroad, their final recovery and repatriation.
Within the meeting, the officials have exchanged their opinions in the field of their activity and analyzed the perspectives of an effective collaboration between the CARA and similar institutions in the Federal Republic of Germany. Also, the possibility of the legislative adjustments has been reviewed to make the investigation process and tracing of the criminal assets of the illicit origin.
The liaison customs officer expressed his willingness to provide assistance to the officers of the CARA and organize joint workshops with the counterparts from Germany and to ensure the continuity of the mutual collaboration in the fields of competence.
The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency is an autonomous subdivision of the NAC, specialized in tracing, freezing, administering and estimating the value of criminal assets. Until present, the German part has processed 8 requests of the CARA on the assets detained in Germany of the subjects of financial investigations. In their turn, the Agency has executed the request for information for the colleagues from Germany. Since inception of the CARA, the institution has seized assets of about 6 billion lei on the illegally recovered assets, identified on the territory of the country and abroad.
