The CARA is transferring over 32 000 000 lei to the state budget, the money seized in the case of smuggling 1,6 million euros from customs
27.01.2022 76 ViewsThe Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) under the NAC has initiated the procedure of transferring financial means, worth over 32 million lei, for the state benefit. The money is to be transferred the next few days in the state budget.
According to the CARA, in April 2020, the Agency received a delegation from the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) in conducting parallel financial investigations in a criminal case, based on smuggling of about 1,6 million euros, found by the customs officers, when crossing the border. Thus, the Agency seized financial means, that were placed on the treasury accounts, managed by the Agency.
Later, the criminal case was sent to the court, the money was frozen, by the court decision, that became final. As a result, the CARA started a procedure of transferring the equivalent of 1,6 million euros to the state.
It should be mentioned that, currently, there is about 76 000 000 million lei on the treasury accounts of the Agency, among which are: 16,8 million lei, 2,5 million euros, 473 thousand dollars, 132 thousand Russian rubbles, 33 thousand Ukrainian hryvnia, 3,000 Romanian lei, 3,230 pounds and 1,500 Swiss francs.
The CARA notes, that the criminal assets recovery process is considered to be completed with the adoption by the court of the confiscation decision. The final step of the process of recovery or sale of confiscated objects is performed by the institution of the bailiff and the State Fiscal Service.
