Today, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Apa Canal Cahul JSC ("Water and Sewarage", Cahul), who is also a councilor in the Cahul Municipal Council, was summoned and recognized as a suspect for the crime of passive corruption in the same case in which the director of Apa Canal Cahul is also targeted.
It is suspected that in order to receive some benefits, he allowed the conclusion and payment of certain services at increased prices, and also allowed, to the detriment of Apa Canal Cahul JSC, the conclusion of an agreement to extend the water supply networks in the village of Valeni, Cahul district, in the amount of over 1 million lei to an enterprise without a license for such work. Instead, he accepted from the administrator of a private company involved in this case, payment for a tourist list in the amount of almost 20,000 lei. They went on vacation together with the director of Apa Canal Cahul JSC.
Also, today, the administrator of the Cahul Business Incubator, who is also the director of the Cahul Environmental Consulting Center, was summoned, recognized as a suspect and charged with complicity in committing the crime of the abuse of office (Article 327, paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code). He, being a member of the procurement working group at the public association that organized the auction, acting together with the head of the construction department at the Cahul District Council, allegedly favored Apa Canal Cahul JSC to win the tender for the purchase of works to expand the aqueduct network so that later, contrary to contractual provisions, they could be subcontracted to another economic agent.
We remind, that in early May, the Southern Department of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, together with officers of the GTD South of the NAC, searched the director of Apa Canal Cahul JSC and the administrator of a private company, and as a result detained them for 72 hours.
Subsequently, at the request of anti-corruption prosecutors to apply a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period of 30 days, the court applied judicial control to them for a period of 60 days. The decision was upheld by the Cahul Court of Appeal, following an appeal by the prosecutor's office.
